In this week’s Autumn Statement George Osborne promised to invest £180 million in upgrading the A30 over the next five years as part of the Government’s national Road Investment Strategy.
The single stretch of carriageway between Temple and Higher Carblake is a notorious bottleneck and work to dual this section of the A30 will begin as early March 2015. There are also plans to improve the A30 between Carland and Chiverton Cross with the aim of having it opened up to traffic by 2020.
George said:
“Because we are on a peninsular at the far end of the county, good roads are vital to the economy and this is an important step forward in further developing our local transport infrastructure. Many constituents have contacted me over the years expressing their concerns about how congested the road can become over the summer and I know the announced work will make a huge difference to the area.”
