George Eustice MP recently visited the Cornwall Food Production Unit at Barncoose Industrial Estate in Redruth.
Cornwall Food opened in 2008 and its state of the art facility now produces more than 175,000 meals per month, from soups to main courses and desserts all tested by dieticians at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. The Unit supplies the Royal Cornwall Hospital, West Cornwall Hospital and St Michael’s Hospital amongst others.
George said ‘Cornwall Food is an excellent example of the public sector taking responsibility for procuring good quality locally produced food.
As Farming and Food Minister I recently launched a new government procurement plan that will mean in future schools and hospitals will be asked to adopt broader criteria when sourcing produce. Cornwall Food is very well placed to supply Cornish schools with great local food.’
