George Eustice MP catches up with developers of the new Asda supermarket on Hayle’s South Quay.
Real progress is being made and the project is reaching what is known as “practical completion” in property terms. The supermarket is predicted to create two hundred local jobs, a real boost for the job market in Hayle and west Cornwall.
The development is part of a larger regeneration of the whole of South Quay which has already seen a repair of the historic harbour walls but will also allow for new housing, shops and supermarkets as well as a footbridge connected the Quay to the town centre.
George has been a vocal and active supporter of the redevelopment after several decades of disagreement and delay, and he intervened backed by local support to urge the Planning Minister to get the project off the ground.
George said ‘It was great to visit the new Asda and get a progress update on the South Quay redevelopment. I believe the project is a vital one in creating local jobs for Hayle and revitalising the town’s industrial heritage. I know that many different organisations from ING to Cornwall Council have worked hard to get things moving and the results are really positive for Hayle.’
