Nick Boles, the Minister for Skills at the Department for Business, was on a fact finding tour of Cornwall last week and joined local MP George Eustice for a visit to the Tremough Innovation Centre at the university campus near Penryn to see some of the new business start-ups that have benefited from the new business incubation project.
The Tremough Innovation Centre is one of three such projects in Cornwall and was the second to be built with the first one being based in Pool adjacent to Cornwall College. The centres have been highly successful at attracting new enterprises especially in digital media, computer software and environmental science. The Tremough centre specialises in digital media and arts as well as green technology. Among the businesses visited on the tour was firetext, which is now a national leader in providing SMS text messaging solutions to assist large companies in communication with their customers.
George Eustice said “I was really pleased to be able to show the Minister the kind of new jobs that are being attracted to the area. Tremough Innovation Centre plays a really important role in helping new businesses find their feet and will ultimately help bring in better paid opportunities to the area.”
